How to survive your first day back at work. Here is a list of things you can do to get prepared and ready for your first day back at work.
There are a few practical steps to follow to make life easier to ease and re-adjust back into the work routine after the December holiday. Before you return to work try to make time to go food shopping for your lunches and snacks at work. The same applies to your work wardrobe. Avoid any last-minute panics by ensuring that all your work clothes are washed, ironed and ready to wear. Once you back from holiday try to get back into your “work” bedtime habits. This will be helpful to ensure that you will be refreshed and focus for your first day and week back at work. Get into bed early and get an early start. The first day can be very busy. Make sure you get enough rest the night before and try to leave a bit earlier than usual. Remember you are not the only one returning to work. Traffic will be a nightmare and you do not want to start your first day back at work fuming with road rage
No matter what your business, life-long learning should be a part of your business plan. Those who rest on their laurels invariably find themselves being overtaken by someone who, through knowledge, has found an excellent way to build and grow their business. Take courses, attend seminars and read material from industry role models continuously.
Be prepared that your email inbox will be bulging with emails. Anything from a “Christmas special”, to a“happy new year” to emails from managers/department head and staff requesting information or to complain. There will be a lot to catch up on and it can be very overwhelming. However, it is possible to reduce the immediate pressure by setting your email expectations. Try to prioritise firstly. Delete anything “spam”, “specials” “ merry Christmas and Happy New year”. With a few click you will clear up more than a quarter of useless emails and you will have more time focusing on the important mails.Next, prioritise the rest of your emails by listing them in order of high, medium and low. Worked focused. Start addressing the emails which are priority or have been sent by key stakeholders, head of departments etc. within the business.
