This month we are focussing on Social Media marketing, primarily because many of our clients are SMMEs or even start-up businesses and this is undoubtedly the most affordable and effective form of marketing for their businesses.
It is helpful for you to know about some of the most important dos and don’ts of Social Media marketing… which covers many aspects, so this article is in 2 parts. Let’s begin with the most important…
Have an action PLAN – Before you start, you need to create measurable GOALS and develop a Social Media (SM) marketing strategy.
CHOOSE your platforms wisely – Ensure that you are on the platforms that are key to your target market. See our post this month on this.
Be CONSISTENT – Using a weekly or monthly post calendar, and scheduling your posts in advance, will help you keep on top of them. Then post regularly at least 3 or more times per week. Make use of themes every week so that all your posts on multiple platforms form one consistent message.
Create GREAT CONTENT – The idea is to create content that your network will share, so give your customers what they want or need – and add value with your content. Use the 80/20 rule when you post – i.e., 80% of the time, you will engage and add value with your posts, and 20% of the time, you will promote your products or services. NB – Watch your GRAMMAR and SPELLING!
Don’t sell – Build RELATIONSHIPS! – Marketing on SM is not about selling. Be ENGAGING & INTERACT with your audience to build relationships. Your goal is to be social and personal and make your followers feel like they are part of your family. Respond to them – i.e. If they mention you, give them a quick like and a comment.
Be a Good LISTENER – Hear what your network is telling you and handle CRITICISM gracefully. Think before TAGGING! Give CREDIT where credit is due and be grateful for it!
